Formatting an Unformated USB Device



Notes
  1. If you do not have administrator access you will not be able to format the USB.
  2. Sometimes using your front USB ports will cause malfunctions with certain hardware. When formatting its best to use the back USB port
  3. Formatting WILL erase all your data. If you are not 100% sure you need to format you should not. If you have access to your data back it up prior to formatting!


Step 1: Attach and navigate to the suspect drive.
Locate Your USB Device By Navigating To 'My Computer'
  1. Plug the USB drive into your computer. If you can utilize the back USB port.
  2. Click "Start" then click "My Computer"
  3. Locate the suspect USB Device among the list of devices you have. If you are unsure which device it is unplug the USB and watch which one disappears then plug it back in and you will see it show up.


Step 2: Open the Format Menu
Right Click the Drive and Click 'Format'
  1. Right click the USB Drive.
  2. From the pop-up menu select "format".


Step 3: Formatting
Click Start and The Format Process Will Begin! If Your Drive Displays 8.00 MB Then it is Corrupted Contact Your Sales Rep
  1. Leave all the default settings in place.
  2. Click "Start" in the format window to begin the format.
  3. If the "Capacity" Field shows 8.00 MB the drive is corrupted. Contact your sales rep and inform them of the problem.
  4. The red outlined image shows a corrupted unit displaying 8.00 MB.


Step 4: Success or Failure
Successful Format Failed format contact support for further assistance
  1. If the format completed successfully a dialog box will appear informing you that the format was a success.

  2. If it fails you will get a similar dialog box but with a different message please reference the red outlined image to the right.
