August 3, 2011 VIA Labs Inc. Reveals VL751 USB to NAND Flash Controller
There is exciting news out of Taiwan today, for those in the flash memory industry. VIA Labs Inc., one of the top suppliers of USB 3.0 chip controllers, has announced its latest USB 3.0 device controller, the VIA Labs VL751 Super Speed USB to NAND flash controller. The VL751 is a huge improvement over the VL750 VIA Labs previous generation single chip controller. The performance has been upgraded in almost every category for an overall improvement of nearly 100% in performance and efficiency, yet the new controller requires no more power consumption than the previous model.

The technology comes at a perfect time for VIA Labs, as USB 3.0 functionality is expected to be integrated into nearly all new desktops and laptops as soon as early next year. This new technology will help broaden the range of USB 3.0 devices by providing fast controllers for large capacity drives of 32GB or more. And with speeds as high as 120MB/s we are certain that this controller will set the benchmark for other USB 3.0 devices for quite some time to come. Also worth mentioning is that thanks to full backwards compatibility these devices achieve 35MB/s transfer speeds with USB 2.0 connections. A vast improvement over the current speeds achieved with most 2.0 devices.

We are excited to see further developments and innovations in this field as continued advancements in USB technology helps drive down the cost of components currently used to manufacture promotional flash drives. We expect these new technologies to bring faster, better and cheaper drives onto the market, and that is something we can all agree is a good thing.
